Leather is commonly damaged by accidents including: Shampoo, detergent and general household cleaning product spills. Clients sometimes cause marks and blemishes themselves trying to clean off marks or stains.

Our top ten reasons for requiring leather repairs:

  1. Cat and Dog scratches.
  2. Manufacturing fault.
  3. Tears caused by children-toys.
  4. Nail varnish remover spillage.
  5. Kitchen surface cleaner used by accident on leather.
  6. Greasy dark marks caused by direct contact with skin.(Bald heads)
  7. Spillage of vodka.
  8. Dog eaten.
  9. Removal man scratches.
  10. "Product" leaking from bottles.

Modern leather goods are not as robust or as well made as leather goods used to be.

We see very inferior quality leather, tanning and colouring on a daily basis. We also see quality leather items over 30-40 years old which are still in fantastic condition and that only need feeding and polishing.

Some retailers of modern leather furniture must be up all night worrying. The designs are modern as are the colours but will the furniture last?

Things to check when buying leather furnishings:

Is it heavy? if it is very heavy that's a good sign (hardwood framed)

Ask what percentage of it is "real leather" (most appears to be PVC nowadays)

Look underneath the item, check out the quality of the zips, staples, fabric and seaming.
Check the thickness and quality of the filling on the arm rests and frame backs.

Don't waste your money buying "special leather cleaning wipes" at £18-£19 a tub.
Baby wipes available from most pound shops, Savers etc work just as well.
